It’s quiet in here…too quiet…

GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!

There, much better Yes it’s me, your friend Mohawk.  It’s been a while since I posted, but a couple of things have sparked my initiative recently.

Second, my external hard drive died.  I’m not a weirdo who gets all emotional about his technology (well, not often, anyway) but this was something significant.  I had all sorts of stuff on that hard drive.  Lots of stuff that I downloaded from the internet, and that I can download again once I get a new external drive.  But also lots of personal stuff.  Stuff that I wrote, and have no backup of.  Computer programs.  Creative writing.  Logs of IM conversations with old friends.  The kind of things that I look at when I get all nostalgic for other times in my life (thankfully I’m getting better at living in the present, but I still have my moments).  All wiped out irrecoverably in an instant.

Well, something has to be done about this.  There’s nothing I can do about the 300GB of data I lost this weekend, but there is plenty I can do about the rest of my digital existence.  I’ve decided to make an attempt to backup my digital life to date, and continue doing so with my future as well.  For starters, I’ll be backing up my old Xanga blog (from my pre-Mohawk days) to a new Wordpress blog on this site.  Facebook, I trust to stay up and running for quite a while, but one does never know, so I hope to find some way to periodically back up my wall conversations and messages for posterity.  Anyway, it’s mad slow looking at wall posts from over a month ago, and impossible to search!

Perhaps I’ll move my first website (still online, incredibly, but covered in ads by its original host, FortuneCity) here as well.  The whole site will of course be backed up periodically to my new external once I get one.  To be honest, I’m not 100% sure what I hope to accomplish with this task.  Back up my life?  Maybe.  I see myself in the future, and no matter where I end up, I hope to never forget where I came from.  I guess I’m just trying to leave breadcrumbs on my path through the woods, not only so that I can find my way out, but also so that others can find their way in to meet me.

College.  It’s pretty fuckin sweet.  And it’s keeping me pretty fuckin busy, and away from this site.  Sorry, but it’s the truth.  I’ll try to post some stuff soon, but no guarantees.

The day is finally here. I have moved Mohawk On Display off of the blogspot host, and onto my own individual hosting account. It is now run by Wordpress, and it’s gotten a makeover. Hope you like it. From now on, www.mohawkondisplay.com points to the new site. It might take a day or so to update, depending on where you live, but it won’t be long.

If you want to look, you can find it at mohawkondisplay.blogspot.com, but I don’t know why you’d want to go there, since it won’t be updated anymore.

Tiny Update: Having a teensy bit of trouble with the rss feeds.  If for some reason your feed doesn’t work right now, just visit this site to read updates, or wait for me to sort things out with feedburner.  Sorry.

Today has been pretty chill. Not too much going on in school, and not too much homework. I’ve still got to do some physics, but that’s usually fun, so no worries there.

I finally ironed out the (I hope) last bug in my Buffy game engine. This means that I’ll be able to start working on the actual game again. Wish me luck!

Also, in programming class, me and Maxant have started writing the Caspertron 2000 to replace our friend with a virtual copy. We hope to make it even better than the original!

I have also decided to start expanding this site to include more than a blog. I don’t know when I’ll have time to do this, and it may take a while if I decide to learn PHP and make a real Content Management System, so be patient. If this does happen, the blog will be moved to blog.mohawkondisplay.com, but don’t worry about that, because I’ll have a link to it on my front page when that happens. Some of the things I’ll be adding to the site include my computer programming projects and an easier way to access my pieces of writing.

Good news! I decided to shell out ten bucks a year for a real domain name. From now on, you can visit Mohawk On Display at http://www.mohawkondisplay.com

Update: Unfortunately, not all is well in top-level-domain-land. Right now, you need to type www.mohawkondisplay.com, and if you forget the www, it won’t work. I’m doing my best to fix this ASAP. And in the meantime, if any web geniuses out there can come up with a way to make DNS less confusing, please do so, because it’s making my head hurt
